Stop Press #1: 2014 Cup Results.

2014 Melbourne Cup Placings:
1. Protectionist 2. Red Cadeaux 3. Who Shot TheBarman
4. Signoff 4. Willing Foe 5. Precedence

Happily I tell 'my system' worked again as three of my selected horses ran 1st, 3rd and 4th. That means my system has now worked for 24 out of the last 27 years. Tragically the Japanese horse Admire Rakti apparently broke down during the race and died when it returned to its stall. At the turn, just before he dropped out of the race, I thought he was going to win by 5 lengths.

Below is part of the the note I wrote for the buyers of the eBook "How To Pick The Winner of the 2014 Melbourne Cup." It was posted, on Melbourne Cup morning, on the password protected page especially for these buyer of the the eBook.

If you have read my web page PickTheCupWinner.com.au and read “How To Pick The Winner Of The 2014 Melbourne Cup” you will know my system is to break the choice down from a Melbourne Cup field of 24 horses to my field of 6 horses that I regard as having the best chance to win the Cup.

If you are a long term buyer of the eBook you will know this system has worked for me now for 23 out of the last 26 years. (Now it is 24 out of 27) You will also know that I then make my selection of the winner from these six. I have been correct in this assessment for 15 out of the 27 years.

My suggestion has always been to have a few dollars each way on the six horses and you will then be able to say “I backed the winner of the Cup.” I am certainly not an advocate of betting outside what you can afford.

These were the six horses for the 2014 Melbourne Cup:

Admire Ratki #1
Fawkner #3
Protectionist #5
WhoShotTheBarman #12
Lucia Valentina #22
Signoff #24

My top 3 are: #1Admire Ratki; #22 Lucia Valentina; #5 Protectionist

My top 1 is: #1Admire Ratki.

FreeAs mentioned my selections ran 1st and 3rd and Signoff was a close 4th. I regarded Admire Ratki was perfectly positioned to win the race but as you will recall tragically it had a heart attack during the race and died soon after.

G’day Max
Congratulations on the 2014 Cup result – you have done it again. Having looked at the final field with a multitude of international entries one can only imagine the research that you have undertaken and once again you have reaped the reward. Congratulations and thank you Dennis Kelly. Lismore.

Hi Max
Thanks max for the early tip mate….. I backed Protectionist whilst i was holidaying in Vietnam. Actually I was having a few beers on a boat sailing around Ha Long Bay when I saw your email. I had a look at Protectionists form and I couldn’t fault it. I Backed the horse with sporting-bet at $17!!!. Plus i got the first four trifecta for 25%. So it was a very profitable day. Thank you very much for the early tip. Nice one mate. Billy Picone - Moree NSW

Hello Max
Thanks once again......I have been following your Melbourne cup tip for the last 5 years. I have my own system that I use for betting and match your rankings. You had mentioned about Protectionist in your email few weeks ago prior to Herbert Power stakes and there was no looking back from him.

Thank you Max! I went through the field for my listeners and told them that following your system the four horses to look seriously at were Protectionist, Signoff, Mutual Regard and Who Shot the Barman so yes you came through again! I put a few dollars on both Protectionist and Signoff, so I’m a happy girl, and all the happier for having had a few minutes with you ; )

Talk again in 2016 I hope. Regards Jacquie Mackay Breakfast Presenter, ABC Capricornia
